Robert Griffin III Scheduled to Work Out for Chargers on Tuesday, Chargers Scheduled to Decline on Wednesday
Free agent quarterback Robert Griffin III is scheduled to work out for the Los Angeles Chargers on Tuesday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. It will be RG3’s first team visit of the offseason.
It’s believed the Chargers are looking to add depth behind starting quarterback Phillip Rivers. Currently the only other QB on their roster with actual NFL experience is 34-year-old Kellen Clemens.
Griffin’s career started with a bang. He led the Washington Redskins to the playoffs with a stellar rookie season in 2012. However, he suffered a knee injury during the 2013 NFC Wild Card Game that basically derailed his tenure in Washington and sent his career into a death spiral.
The Browns gave RG3 a shot at redemption last year. However, he broke his collarbone in the first game of the season, because that’s the kind of thing that happens when you play in Cleveland. Griffin returned for the last four games of the season and led the Browns to their only victory, which just so happened to come against the Chargers on Christmas Eve. However, the Browns decided to part ways with Griffin in March after they acquired Brock Osweiler from the Texans.
The NFL would certainly be a lot more exciting with a healthy Robert Griffin III back in action. Whether that is in fact a possibility remains to be seen.
