LaMar Odom Opens Up About Cocaine Addiction: “I Was Doing Coke Every Day” (VIDEO)
Lamar Odom‘s life has been a roller coaster, from losing his mother at the young age of 12, to winning NBA championships at the ages of 29 and 30, to suffering through a dangerous cocaine addiction that nearly took his life at the age of 34.
Odom’s recent struggles with cocaine addiction have been well documented, as the former Lakers star has been in the media spotlight ever since he married Khloe Kardashian back in 2009. But despite hearing about his trials and tribulations either through TMZ or by watching him and Khloe on “Keeping Up With The Kardashians,” we never really got the full story…until now.
Lamar recently sat down with The Players’ Tribune to speak about everything he’s been through, from the loss of his mother at a young age, to the first time he tried cocaine, to what it was like waking up from his coma and realizing he had just cheated death.
Here’s an excerpt:
At some point, the main doctor came in and told me what had happened. He said, “Mr. Odom, you’ve been in a coma for the last four days. Do you understand?”
I couldn’t talk. So I just nodded.
He said, “It’s a miracle that you’re here. We didn’t think you were going to make it.”
I was in total shock. Couldn’t say any clever shit back. Couldn’t ask questions. It was the first time in my life that I felt helpless. I felt like I was two inches tall. It was just … it was real.
At that point in my life, I was doing coke every day. Pretty much every second of free time that I had, I was doing coke. I couldn’t control it.
I didn’t want to control it.
