Daniel Cormier Banked $1M After UFC 214 Loss, While Jon Jones Pocketed $500K
What a night it was at UFC 214.
The long awaited fight between Jon Jones and Daniel Cormier was finally here after there original rematch was called off when Jones failed a drug test and was suspended for a year.
On Saturday, Cormier looked good for two rounds. Then he made the mistake of giving Jones the Dikembe Mutombo finger wag and it all went downhill from there. One kick to the head knocked him senseless and Jones finished him off with a flurry of punches to capture the UFC Light Heavyweight title.
The now former UFC light heavyweight champion may have lost the fight, but he definitely won the money war as he took home a $1 million fight purse, according to MMAFighting.com. Cormier didn’t receive any show money, but will get a share of the pay-per-view revenue.
Jones, however, took home $500K in show money for the fight with no win bonus, but pocketed an extra $50K from a Performance of the Night bonus.
Cormier joins a select group of UFC fighters who have taken home $1 million for a UFC fight. That list includes Conor McGregor, Ronda Rousey, Nate Diaz and Brock Lesnar.
