The Chicago Bears were mocked by fans and experts alike after trading four draft picks to move up one spot and select quarterback Mitch Trubisky with the no. 2 pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

Now, after one meaningless preseason game, fans and experts have changed their tune. Everybody loves Mitch Trubisky. He’s a football savant with an arm of gold. The people of Chicago are ready to storm soldier field to overthrow starter Mike Glennon, and it’s been like four days.

Take a look:

It has come to pass just as it was predicted:

Bears coach John Fox has seen this hype before. He was coach of the Denver Broncos when Tim Tebow joined the league, so he had a front row seat for Tebowmania.

Of course, we all know how the Tim Tebow story turned out. (Badly. Nay, very badly.) So you might think John Fox would avoid comparing the Trubisky hype to Tebowmania. But no. Speaking to reporters on Sunday, that’s exactly what he did.

“The first time we threw Tim Tebow out there in Denver it was pretty similar,” Fox said, apprently forgetting that Tim Tebow is now a minor league baseball player. “That brought quite a bit of attention.”

Fox went on to suggest that Trubisky’s strong performance against a bunch of second-stringers vindicated the Bear’s decision to draft him in the first place.

“There’s a reason why we drafted him with the second pick of the draft,” Fox explained. ‘I think for the first time people got to see that in a Bears uniform, which I think is exciting.”

Enjoy the Trubisky Show while it lasts, Chicago.
