REPORT: Cavs Asked About Klay Thompson Before Trading Kyrie To Boston
Before trading Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics in a blockbuster deal on Tuesday, the Cleveland Cavaliers actually reached out to the Golden State Warriors about swapping Irving for Klay Thompson.
Golden State reportedly wasn’t interested in such a swap and declined the offer, just as they reportedly did when the Indiana Pacers approached them about swapping Paul George for Klay earlier this summer.
Via the Undefeated:
“Altman was extremely focused on the future in making this trade, a source said. This trade may give James much more faith in Altman as a general manager.
It would be hard to believe that Altman could have landed a better trade than the Boston one.
He did call the uninterested Warriors about Klay Thompson, a source said.”
Instead, the Cavaliers received so much more from Boston, including a valuable draft pick from the Brooklyn Nets that could end up being in the top 5. That should help keep the franchise afloat if LeBron James does in fact bolt following the season.
