Vegas Bookies Favor ’07 Pats Over ’17 Pats…In Case You Were Wondering
Before you go placing a better on an 11-year-old sports team to win the Super Bowl this year…think again.
ESPN, apparently with some time on its hands, asked seven bookies in Vegas to handicap a fictional matchup between the 2007 New England Patriots and the 2017 Pats.
The result? Well, the bookies liked the 2007 Pats. You know, the ones that went undefeated and then lost the Super Bowl in the final minutes? Yeah. They think that team was a little better than the 2017 version without Julian Edelman and with an injury-prone Gronk and a 40-year-old Brady.
That said, the 2017 Pats are still the heavy favorites to win the Super Bowl against the rest of the 2017 teams, so they’re not exactly a slouch.
As for the 2007 Patriots, it’s looking like they were rated the best team ever in the eyes of Vegas sports books, but they weren’t able to take home the Lombardi Trophy against the Giants. So there’s something to be said for that element of randomness, now isn’t there?
