REPORT: Jon Jones’ B Sample Confirms Failed UFC 214 Drug Test
Welp. So much for being set up.
Last month, the MMA world was brought to its heels after it was announced that Jon Jones had failed a drug test before his light heavyweight title fight at UFC 214 against Daniel Cormier. Jones and his camp claimed he didn’t cheat. They even went so far as to suggest that Jones had been set up to fail.
That was all put to rest on Tuesday when his B sample came back and basically confirmed he had failed yet another drug test, according to ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.
“The “B” sample of UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ failed drug test from July 28 in Anaheim, California, has confirmed the presence of a banned substance, a spokesperson for the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) said Tuesday.
“Mr. Jones ‘B’ sample has confirmed the ‘A’ sample findings,” the spokesperson said. “Importantly — as previously stated — due process should occur before drawing any conclusions about this matter.”
Jones faces a four-year suspension and although the result of the UFC 214 main event has yet to be changed, it is likely to be changed to a no contest and Cormier could regain the light heavyweight title.
This is the second failed drug test of Jones’ career.
