Cavs Sign Dwyane Wade to Reported One-Year $2.3 Million Deal
The Cleveland Cavaliers completed the least surprising free agent signing of the NBA offseason late Tuesday. Though the team has yet to make an official announcement, numerous media outlets are reporting that the Cavs have reunited LeBron James with banana boat buddy and former Heat teammate Dwyane Wade.
It’s believed that Wade, who earlier this week was bought out by the Bulls for $15 million, has signed a one-year $2.3 million veterans minimum deal. It was initially reported that Wade was also looking at the Spurs, Heat, and possibly even the Thunder. But sources say he was just doing his due diligence and checking out all his options. He really only ever wanted to join LeBron in Cleveland.
Wade joins a roster that, in addition to LeBron, includes Kevin Love, Isaiah Thomas, J.R. Smith, Kyle Korver, Tristan Thompson and, perhaps most intriguingly, Derrick Rose.
Wade turns 36 in January and is obviously on the decline. However, he still averaged 18.3 points per game last season. With the Cavs he will not have to be the guy, or even the other guy. He can just be a guy who, every once in a while, scores 35 points.
All in all, the Cavs have a pretty interesting roster. Things could go terribly wrong. Derrick Rose could re-injure his knee, Isaiah Thomas could re-injure his hip, Dwyane Wade could re-injure everything. But if these guys somehow stay relatively healthy, this could be a pretty damn good team.
