Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva: ‘Unacceptable To Use Me As A Tool To Push An Agenda’
Last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Alejandro Villanueva become an household name around the league after he was the only player on the team to come out of the tunnel during the playing of the National Anthem.
The image of him standing alone went viral across the internet and his jersey immediately became the most purchased jersey in the NFL. He has since apologized for making his teammates look bad. He says that wasn’t his intention, and now he’s calling out anybody that is using his image to further their own agenda.
He’s tired of the unwanted attention:
Al Villanueva says, “I’m tired of the cameras in my face all the time…It’s completely unacceptable to use me as a tool to push an agenda.”

The many people who despise players kneeling have used him to make a point or further their own political agenda. Meanwhile, Villanueva’s intention was to show respect to his fallen brothers, all while respecting the fact that players are kneeling for a cause, which he also agrees with.
