Emmitt Smith Wonders Why Cam Newton is Held To A Higher Standard Than Donald Trump? (VIDEO)
When an athlete comes out and says something completely controversial, he is rightfully dragged through the mud. But when it comes to the President of the United States saying something equally as controversial, the outrage is not as harsh, so says Emmitt Smith.
The former Dallas Cowboys RB recently sat down with SI Now Live. During the interview, he said that the media and other folks are now dissecting the situation to the point that it’s become ‘overkill.’ He also wondered why athletes are held to a higher standard than the current Commander in Chief.
“It’s amazing we expect so much from our athletes but don’t expect the same from our president and chief,” Smith said. “These are mistakes, these are things that he may have thought was funny and someone took offense to it. Sensitivity levels are so high, for what reasons I don’t know.”
“He’s stepped up; he’s giving a sincere apology,” Smith said. “From this point forward for the female reporter and the females around the world receive his apology for what it is and give him a chance to get on the right path.”
After being blasted on social media by other journalists, fans, feminists, and then losing a sponsorship, Cam posted an apology video on Thursday to anybody who took offense to what he said.
“I understand my word choice was extremely degrading and disrespectful to women.” Newton said “And to be honest, that was not my intention. And if you are a person who took offense to what I said, I sincerely apologize to you.”
