Homecoming Queen Kicks Game-Winning Field Goal in Texas High School Football Game (Video)

texas high school homecoming queen kicks game-winning field goal

Apparently the students at Glenda Dawson High School in Pearland, Texas, like their homecoming queens to be well-rounded.

This year, instead of a football cheerleader, Glenda Dawson students crowned a football player. And last week that football player kicked the game-winning field goal against their arch rivals.

Her name is Claire Jeffress. She’s a senior. And apparently she’s a total badass.

On Friday, the Glenda Dawson Eagles were tied 35-35 with the arch rival Pearland High Oilers. Glenda Dawson coach Eric Wells called on Jeffress to kick a field goal on the Pearland 13 with 4:14 left in the game, and the homecoming queen nailed it.

Take a look:

“Claire is something—she just doesn’t get rattled,” Wells told the Houston Chronicle after the game. “There wasn’t even a question that she was going to kick it.

“‘Homecoming queen knocks it through, Dawson wins.’ You have to love that.”

One person who did in fact “love that” was Katie Hnida, the first female football player to score points in an NCAA Division I-A football game. We know, because she tweeted about it:

Hnida’s tweet, more than any newspaper article or blog post, made Jeffress’ week:

Social media can be pretty stupid sometimes. But every once in a while it connects people with their heroes and reminds us of the effect we can have on the lives of others.

Truly awesome stuff.
