Report: Proposed John Cena Heel Turn Cancelled Because Of K-Mart
John Cena has had the most successful WWE career since Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. The guy has done it all, from winning titles and headlining WrestleMania to setting the all-time “Make-A-Wish” record and starring in Foot Locker commercials.
Usually, when a guy has achieved everything there is to achieve, the only thing left is a heel turn. Hell, even Hulk Hogan grew a beard and became Hollywood Hogan. However, with Cena, the heel turn never came. And now, thanks to a series of injuries, we’ll mostly likely never see a John Cena heel turn, because his career as a full-time wrestler is mostly likely over.
So why did we never get a John Cena heel turn? Well, it’s not because Cena wasn’t willing. According to WWE writer Kevin Eck, the WWE tried to do a John Cena heel turn on numerous occasions, but they had to change plans due to unforeseen circumstances.
The best story? One time Cena and the WWE had a heel turn all worked out, but they had to cancel it because of K-Mart.
Here’s an excerpt from Eck’s recent appearance on The Wade Keller Pro Wrestling Podcast:
“That was the feeling back then, then we came up with some scenarios, and believe it or not, Cena was on board with it, but right around that time there was a big clothing line for John Cena at Kmart, and Vince McMahon was like, ‘Oh Jesus Christ, he has a deal with Kmart, and now we’re going to turn him heel?’ So, Kmart is to blame for Cena not turning heel. During a meeting once Vince had a huge smile on his face, and he tells everyone that I know you’ve wanted John Cena as a heel for a long time, but we just can’t turn him heel and that was the end of that.”
