The prophecy has been fulfilled. The Houston Astros really are your 2017 World Series Champions. And now copies of the famous Sports Illustrated cover predicting it are selling for a ton on eBay.

For those late to the party, the June 30, 2014, issue of Sports Illustrated had George Springer¬†on the cover and predicted the Astros would in the would win the 2017 World Series. It was a pretty ballsy move from SI, seeing as how the Astros averaged 104 losses per season from 2011-2014. But Ben Reiter, the author of the cover story, was convinced that the Astros were on to something with their new approach to blending analytics and traditional scouting. And his editors wanted to catch people’s attention.

The cover of that issue may not have made headlines at the time. But it made headlines after the Astros beat the Yankees in the ALCS. And now, after the Astros beat the Dodgers in Game 7, and George Springer was named World Series MVP, well, every single Astros fan who’s waited 55 years for a World Series championship wants a copy…which is probably why they’re being listed for THOUSANDS of dollars on eBay right now.
