REPORT: ESPN Plans To Lay Off 100’s of Employees After Thanksgiving, But Before Christmas
Last month, it was reported that ESPN would be laying off 40-60 more employees, this after the company laid off some huge names earlier this year already.
As the year winds down and we get set to head into 2018, that number has increased and a timetable of when a bunch of employees at the Worldwide leader will find out they’re unemployed has been revealed.

ESPN will lay off more than 100 staffers after the Thanksgiving holidays, multiple sources tell Sports Illustrated. The layoffs, which were described by a person briefed on the plans, will hit positions across ESPN including front-facing talent on the television side, producers, executives, and digital and technology staffers. The SportsCenter franchise is expected to be hit hard—including on-air people—given the frequency of the show has lessened considerably on main network ESPN.
ESPN has terminated the jobs of over 400 employees since October 2015, with at least 100 of them happening back in April. At that time the company said, “A necessary component of managing change involves constantly evaluating how we best utilize all of our resources, and that sometimes involves difficult decisions.”
