LeBron James Says He Wanted the Cleveland Browns to Draft Deshaun Watson
In his now famous rant that took aim at Phil Jackson for drafting Frank Ntilikina over the more promising Dennis Smith, Jr., LeBron James‘ thoughts on the NFL draft simmered up to the top as well.
While he was quick to cover his butt by saying that Myles Garrett, Cleveland’s actual draft pick, might be a fine player, the NBA icon admits that he was gunning for the woeful Browns to pick another player.
“I think Deshaun Watson should be a Brown,” James said to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. “Doesn’t mean that Myles Garrett isn’t going to be a great football player. But Deshaun Watson should’ve been our quarterback. Doesn’t mean you’re [ripping] on the next guy. It’s just that you’re stating what you see.”
Cleveland had the option of taking both players, but after picking Garrett at #1, traded their #12 pick to the Texans for a future first-round pick.
Poor DeShone Kizer, who was drafted at QB in the second round, is now responding to James’ opinion because, well, that’s what sports reporters like to talk about in between games.
“That has nothing to do with me,” Kizer, who is last in the league in QB rating, said.
Considering how bad Cleveland is, LeBron’s opinion may matter more in Cleveland than those of the Browns’ execs.
