After being dominated in the first half of the AFC Title game, the Patriots were able to get in the end zone with less than 1 minute left in the first half, and several Patriots players celebrated off to the side. A ref quickly joined them and seemingly began cheering with them, and social media went crazy.
With people already on edge about the Patriots constantly getting breaks and weird things always happening when teams play them, someone decided to capitalize on that hysteria and create a fake news broadcast of the NFL admitting to rigging games. Needless to say, people ate it up.
The original video, which was posted on Facebook Tuesday, already has over 67K likes and 388K shares.
It reads as follows:
“After a Jaguars player blows the whistle on the NFL for rigging games, Commissioner Roger Goodell admits to the accusations, acknowledging the long time suspicions of fans. WFKE News delves deep into the nuance of game rigging.”
