Johnny Manziel’s name has been popping up frequently for all the right reasons, as the disgraced NFL quarterback attempts to get his life back in order and compete in pro football once again. It’s a long road, and he’ll certainly need to orchestrate some serious PR moves to help potential employers forget about his past transgressions.
Fortunately, he seemed to make progress on that front as he explained his struggle with alcohol and bipolar disorder to the folks at Good Morning America.

Manziel also gets real about the non-medical issues he faced in his transition to pro ball.
“I had a sense of entitlement about what I had accomplished at that age,” Manziel said.
He explained later in the video:
I was self-medicating with alcohol. That’s what I thought would make me happy and get out of that depression. When I would wake up the next day after a night like that, going on a trip like that, and you wake up the next day and that is all gone, that liquid courage, or that liquid … sense of euphoria that is over you, is all gone.
You are left staring at the ceiling by yourself, and in that depression and back in that hole, that dark hole of sitting in a room by yourself, super depressed, thinking about all the mistakes you made in your life. What did that get me? Where did that get me except out of the NFL? Where did that get me? Disgraced?
He seems contrite and aware of his misdeeds, so we’ll see if he can use that enlightenment to secure another shot at his NFL dream.
