This was the third straight Winter Olympics that Team Canada had to face off against Team USA for the Gold Medal in women’s hockey, with Canada taking the last two matchups—not to mention being on a streak of winning four straight Gold Medals.

This time would be different, however. The United States would score a crucial goal in the 3rd period to force overtime, during which neither team could score. So a shootout was on deck.

Jocelyne Lamoureux stepped up and put a sick euro-step/ankle breaker on Canada’s goalie to win it in the sixth frame of the shootout, breaking a dramatic 80-minute 2-2 deadlock and earning a gold medal for the first time since 1998.
