For those of you who watched Sunday’s Big East title game between Villanova and Providence, no, Providence coach Ed Cooley did not sign an endorsement deal with Gatorade halfway through the game.

Cooley was spotted with a Gatorade towel tucked into his pants during Providence’s 76-66 overtime loss to Villanova.

Take a look:

Cooley wasn’t making some kind of fashion statement, though. At some point during the thriller, Cooley suffered a pretty embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.

“When I sat down, I felt the great breeze in the crack,” Cooley explained after the game. “My pants ripped.”

With the game going on Cooley didn’t have time to go to the locker room, and changing pants in front of 20,000 screaming fans at Madison Square Garden obviously was not an option. So he MacGyvered a solution, stuffing a couple of towels in his waistband so nobody saw his drawers.

Pretty clever, really. But Cooley might want to get a tailor to reinforce his seems before the 10th-seeded Friars take on Texas A&M in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament this Friday.
