Leafs’ Nazem Kadri Delivers SAVAGE Headshot to Bruins’ Tommy Wingels (VIDEO)
The Toronto Maple Leafs opened the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoff campaign with an embarrassing 5-1 beatdown at the hands of the Boston Bruins on Thursday night, and things are only going to get worse before they get better. Maple Leafs center Nazem Kadri is facing a possible suspension for a vicious headshot inflicted on Bruins forward Tommy Wingels.
The hit came midway through the third period, with the Bruins already up 4-1. Wingels and Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara double-teamed Leafs forward Mitch Marner along the boards, and Wingels’ elbow appeared to get a bit of Marner’s head. However, the referees didn’t even get a chance to call a penalty. When Kadri saw the elbow, he came charging in to exact retribution, leaping off his feet while Wingels was on his knees and crashing shoulder-first into Wingels’ head.
Take a look:
Kadri earned a five-minute boarding penalty and a game misconduct for that cheapshot. But those are the least of his concerns at this point. The 27-year-old has a history of cheapshots and suspensions, so the NHL’s department of player safety is not likely to go lenient. Seeing as how they suspended Los Angeles Kings defenseman Drew Doughty one game for his hit on Vegas’ Will Carrier, Kadri should expect at least two games for his hit on Wingels.
