Pop Singer Rachel Platten Botches National Anthem, Has to Start Over TWICE (VIDEOS)
Most observers were in agreement that Fergie‘s performance of the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star Game was absolutely awful. However, at least she didn’t forget the words and have to start over.
That was not the case with pop singer Rachel Platten over the weekend. She totally blanked on the first line of “The Star-Spangled Banner” and had to restart the song not once but twice prior to Saturday’s National Women’s Soccer League game between the Utah Royals and the Chicago Red Stars in Salt Lake City. In fact, it was so bad that, after screwing up the second time, Platten actually had to ask somebody to tell her the lyric.
It’s one of the most cringe-inducing perforances you’ll ever see. Take a look:
The crazy thing is, Platten is actually a seasoned performer. She won a Daytime Emmy award in 2016 for her performance of her double-platinum single, “Fight Song,” on Good Morning America.
She certainly didn’t have any trouble performing the National Anthem at the 2016 MLB All-Star Game:
Nor did she have any trouble performing it at the 2016 World Series:
To Platten’s credit, once she finally got past “by the dawn’s early light” on her third try on Saturday, everything clicked and she totally nailed it.
Unfortunately, most people probably aren’t going to remember that.
