WWE Legend Kane Wins Republican Mayoral Primary, Is One Step Closer To Becoming Mayor Of Knox County, Tennessee
Looks like Kane is about to become the next WWE legend to make the jump from professional wrestling to politics.
Kane, real name is Glenn Jacobs, announced last year that he was running for mayor in Knox County, Tennessee. On Tuesday he won the hotly contested Republican primary by fewer than 20 votes. He’s now a shoe-in to win the general election because Knox County’s population of 451,324 people is predominantly Republican.
This could not be a more surreal career change for Jacobs. In the ring he’s Kane, the pyromaniacal half-brother of The Undertaker, with whom he’s either feuding or teaming up to form the so-called Brothers of Destruction. He’s a three-time world champion, a 12-time world tag team champion, and a two-time intercontinental champion.
Now he’s trading in his gruesome face mask for, like, a gavel or something. Kane’s campaign slogan is “Lighting the way for our future,” and he promises to focus on seven key issues: low taxes, quality education, new jobs, improved infrastructure, transparency, safer communities, and limited government.
No word yet on whether Kane plans to use The Undertaker as an enforcer in the event that the Knox County Board of Commissioners gets out of line and threatens to thwart his agenda. But he did bring The Undertaker in to campaign for him earlier this spring. So if I were a commissioner I’d think twice before pissing off the new mayor.
