REPORT: ESPN Takes UFC Package From Fox In Five-Year Deal
A few days after FOX reportedly reached a deal with WWE to move its “SmackDown” program over to Fox starting in December 2019 for $1 billion, ESPN made a huge decision as well.
The worldwide leader in sports is taking control of the television rights for the Ultimate Fighting Championship from Fox Sports with a deal that is worth $150 million per year and is slated to start January 1st. Variety reports the new deal will allow ESPN to show 30 events per year and the network is paying UFC $1.5 billion over the life of the five–year deal.
“After nabbing a different set of TV rights from UFC in April for a five-year deal worth $750 million, the second pact will deliver an additional 30 fights to Disney. UFC will still pay-per-view and its Fight Pass streaming service.”
UFC averaged about 2 million viewers per fight last year, but saw a slight dip in ratings.
