Wife Of Senators Star Erik Karlsson Files Restraining Order Against Teammate’s Girlfriend, Alleging Extended Campaign Of Harassment

Absolutely bizarre news out of Ottawa today, where Melinda Karlsson, the wife of Senators superstar Erik Karlsson, has applied for a restraining order against Monika Caryk, the longtime girlfriend of Karlsson’s teammate Mike Hoffman.

Karlsson says Caryk has carried out a campaign of harassment against her and her husband since November 2017, including threats of violence and various other derogatory statements.

“Monika Caryk has uttered numerous statements wishing my unborn child dead,” Melinda Karlsson said in a sworn statement to the court on May 4. “She also uttered that she wished I was dead and that someone should ‘take out’ my husband’s legs to ‘end his career.’ Monika Caryk has posted over 1,000 negative and derogatory statements about me as a professional.”

The Karlssons believe Caryk used numerous burner Instagram accounts to post disturbing comments on their posts. The most incendiary comments pertain to death of the Karlsson’s stillborn son.

On March 21, Erik Karlsson posted a photo of his son’s tiny footprints on Instagram. According to the Ottawa Citizen, the post garnered over 10,000 comments, most of which offered support and sympathy. However, one comment was absolutely vile.

“I feel bad for the baby he didn’t have a chance with Melinda popping pain killer medication everyday,” wrote user @sandydandy45.

Karlsson responded just seven minutes later.

“How dare you,” he wrote. “You have been making fake accounts and buying hacked ones for months to harass me and my wife but this is an all new low even for you. You are a disgusting person.”

The @sandydandy45 account and another one that made regular attacks on Melinda have since been deactivated.

Not long after news about Melinda Karlsson’s application for a restraining order broke, Mike Hoffman issued a statement:

“There is a 150 per cent chance that my fianceé Monika and I are not involved in any of the accusations that have been pursued (that are) coming our way. We totally understand there’s no place for cyberbullying.

“We’ve offered to co-operate and do anything it takes to find out who is doing this, and support [the Karlssons]. Obviously this is a tough time that they’re going through, and we want to find out who is doing this, because for some reason it’s coming into our court, and it’s 150 per cent that it’s not us.

“We have nothing to hide. We’re willing to co-operate in any way to solve this and figure it out, and prove that it wasn’t us.”

This is a very weird situation unfolding in Ottawa right now, and it’s only going to get weirder before it’s all said and done.

Stay tuned.
