St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright is currently on the 60-day DL with an elbow injury. That means he’s got a lot of free time on his hands.

Unfortunately for San Diego Padres first base coach Skip Schumaker, this week Wainwright used some of that free time to pull off a pretty epic prank at his expense.

While the Padres were playing the Cardinals at Busch Stadium in St. Louis on Wednesday night, Wainwright got somebody to sneak into the visitors’ clubhouse and steal the street clothes Schumaker had packed for himself to wear after the game. Then Wainwright got the Cardinals’ equipment manager to iron his name and number on the back of Schumaker’s white shirt, as well as his number on the seat of his pants.

Wainwright also autographed the numbers for good measure.

Take a look:

Wainwright and Schumaker were teammates on the Cardinals from 2006 through 2012, and during that time they became very good friends. According to Wainwright, Wednesday’s prank was retaliation for a prank Schumaker played on Wainwright when the Cardinals were in San Diego last month.

“This is a good one,” Schumaker conceded to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Derrick Goold. “I’m impressed. It’s really, really good. The autograph to my wife—may have crossed the line, actually.”

Nice to know baseball players are occasionally allowed to have some fun.
