Horribly Ironic Urban Meyer T-Shirt Sells Out Hours After Ohio State Suspended Him

Ohio State University placed head football coach Urban Meyer on administrative leave on Monday as it launches an investigation into allegations that Meyer failed to act on domestic violence allegations against a team employee.

The Buckeyes fired wide receivers coach Zach Smith last week after he was served with a civil protection order over a string of domestic assaults against his ex-wife, Courtney Smith, between 2009 and 2015.

At the time of Smith’s firing, Urban Meyer said he never knew about the domestic violence, and that if he had he would have fired Smith a long time ago. However, on Monday Courtney Smith told college football reporter Brett McMurphy that Urban Meyer did know about the domestic violence. Smith even provided McMurphy with a series of text messages between her and Meyer’s wife, Shelley Meyer, in which Meyer offered support and promised to tell her husband about the violence.

Of course, whether Shelley Meyer really did tell her husband about Zach Smith is the subject of Ohio State’s investigation. But whatever the outcome, this sad scandal gives a macabre new meaning to this t-shirt:

According to Headline News reporter Carol Costello, the “Urban Meyers Knows” t-shirts sold out just about everywhere in the hours after Brett McMurphy’s bombshell report.

Don’t be surprised if a lot of Michigan fans show up to “The Game” wearing these shirts.
