The Washington Redskins are down to just 3 healthy running backs on the roster and have begun exploring options on the free agent market.

Team officials have lined up meetings with notable names, Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles. Former Arizona Cardinals RB Peterson is set to meet on Monday, while the former Chiefs pro-bowler is meeting with the team on Sunday.

Coach Jay Gruden told reporters that the team is “covering our bases” while waiting to see how Samaje Perine and Byron Marshall recover from injuries suffered in Thursday’s preseason game.

LSU’s Derrius Guice, who was drafted in the 2nd round, was definitely high on the list to be the starter, but he would tear his ACL in the preseason opener.
