LeBron Declines To Respond To Kevin Durant’s Criticism of Him Having Media Fan Boys, Toxic Environment (VIDEO)
LeBron has been in the game too long for questions like this to trip him up.
Earlier this week, Kevin Durant gave a quote to Bleacher Report that seemed to indicate even if he wanted to play alongside LeBron James in the future, he doesn’t want to deal with the media fan boys and toxic environment that comes with it.
“So much hype comes from being around LeBron from other people,” Durant said. “He has so many fanboys in the media. Even the beat writers just fawn over him. I’m like, we’re playing basketball here, and it’s not even about basketball at certain points. So I get why anyone wouldn’t want to be in that environment because it’s toxic. Especially when the attention is bulls–t attention, fluff. It’s not LeBron’s fault at all; it’s just the fact you have so many groupies in the media that love to hang on every word. Just get out of the way and let us play basketball.”
Following his huge game against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers star was asked if his performance was in anyway fueled by the comments of the Golden State Warriors star.
“No, for what? I’m past the [taking things] personal stage,” James said after his third game of 40-plus points this season. “I can do whatever. I can have a huge workload, I can have a not so huge workload. … It doesn’t matter for me. What’s most important is seeing my teammates make huge shots in the fourth quarter. … That’s what’s most important to me. I can care less about the narrative about me. It doesn’t matter. I’m a staple in this game.”
James insisted he had not read excerpts from what Durant had stated:
“I did not,” James said when asked by USA TODAY Sports if he had seen the story and the “toxic” comment. “I believe that’s probably not the whole quote so I am not going to comment on that.
“I will love to see the whole transcript of what was asked of him, the context of what was asked, why it was asked, and the whole thing. I am not going to comment on it. I don’t know the whole thing —that would be stupid on my part. I am a veteran.”
