Former Red Sox star David Ortiz has made incredible strides since being shot in the back in his native hometown. The slugger took his first steps Tuesday following a second surgery in Boston after he was flown from the Dominican Republic, courtesy of the Red Sox.

His wife, Tiffany, said in a statement sent through the team that that he is in stable condition. The very next day, she confirmed in a statement that her husband took some steps and was “making good progress towards recovery.”

As you know by now, Ortiz was shot in the back at a club Sunday in Santo Domingo and underwent emergency surgery for six hours to repair damage done by the bullet to both his intestines and his liver.

The man who drove the motorcycle who had the shooter behind him was captured by the locals and beaten before cops eventually got there to detain him.

The second guy, who is said to have fired off the shots, was reportedly captured on Tuesday.

The motorcycle driver has been identified as Eddy Feliz Garcia and has formally been charged with attempted homicide and criminal association, according to his lawyer, Bunel Ramirez Meran.

Police have not yet released the identity of the suspected gunman, but one look on social media would get you how he looks.

Ortiz played major league baseball for 20 seasons and is best known for the 14 years he spent with Boston.
