Megan Rapinoe Rips Donald Trump For “Excluding People That Look Like Me” (VIDEO)
U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe continued her tirade against Donald Trump during a CNN interview that aired on Tuesday night, telling him that he’s “excluding people,” including those who look like her.
“You’re excluding me. You’re excluding people that look like me. You’re excluding people of color. You’re excluding Americans that maybe support you,” she said after being asked what her message would be to Trump if he were watching the program.
“I think that we need to have a reckoning with the message that you have and what you’re saying about Make America Great Again. I think that you’re harking back to an era that was not great for everyone,” she said. “It might have been great for a few people.”
“Maybe America is great for a few people right now,” she continued. “But it’s not great for enough Americans in this world and I think that we have a responsibility, each and everyone of us, you have an incredible responsibility as the chief of this country, to take care of every single person and you need to be better for everyone.”
Rapinoe, who is openly gay, also spoke on the many critics who pushed back on her kneeling during the National Anthem, stating, “I think that taking care of others, standing up for yourself and other people if they don’t have the ability to do so, is very uniquely American.
“I think everybody in America would say that and I think we have a rich history and a pride in saying those words and often times in doing that in the world,” she continued. “I don’t think anybody can deny the horrors of racism and Jim Crow and mass incarceration and what’s happening on the southern border and gay right and women’s rights. I don’t quite understand where the miss is because I think a lot of the people that disagree with me would benefit greatly from a world that is better for everyone.”
She asked once again during that same interview on whether she would visit Washington after receiving many invites from Sen. Chuck Schumer and Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Nancy Pelosi, Rapinoe answered, “Yes, definitely.”
“And I think even in just conversations with the teammates that I’ve had, I think everyone is interested in going to Washington. I think we’ve always been interested in going to Washington,” Rapinoe said.
“This is such special moment for us and to be able to sort of leverage this moment and talk about the things we want to talk about and to celebrate this with the leaders of our country is an incredible moment,” she added.
