Akron Police said Joel Wells was shot in the head on Thursday, finding him laid out on a driveway after they responded to a shooting call. Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.
Per WEWS news, Beanie Wells is offering a $15,000 reward in the case and a local crimestoppers organization is offering an additional $5,000.
Beanie Wells played three seasons at Ohio State, with his best season coming in 2007 when he rushed for 1,609 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Wells was the 31st overall pick by the Arizona Cardinals in the 2009 NFL draft, but would only play for four seasons in the league.
His best season would come in 2011 when he rushed for over 1,000 yards and had 10 rushing TDs.
Cardinals would cut him in 2012 after he missed much of the season with a turf toe injury. He would tear his ACL working out for the Baltimore Ravens in 2013 and never play in the league again.
