Trumaine Johnson signed a 5-year, $72.5M deal with $45M guaranteed with the New York Jets. By Week 2, Johnson was benched against the Cleveland Browns on Monday Night Football.
With the first two weeks of the season over, the Jets are now wondering if Johnson’s passion for the game is still there.
Jets head coach Adam Gase said on Wednesday that the fit between Johnson and the Jets “hasn’t worked out as well as we need it to.”
Jets reporter Manish Mehta believes the front office is confident that Johnson might be not be fond of playing the sport any longer.
“Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that the Jets don’t think Johnson loves football and believe he has a “laissez faire mindset.”
Johnson argued otherwise:
“Of course I love football,” Johnson said. “I’ve been doing it all my life. I’m passionate about it. It’s my life. It’s not a job to me. I love what I do.”
Gregg Williams’ defense could certainly use a boost this weekend when the team travels to play the New England Patriots.
