Nationals catcher Kurt Suzuki is now defending his decision to pull out a red “Make America Great Again” hat during his team’s visit at the White House.

It all went down on Monday when President Donald Trump called Suzuki up to speak, which had him pull out the cap and make the crowd go wild upon putting the hat on. Trump loved it so much that he that he bear-hugged Suzuki from behind as Suzuki then said, “I love you all. I love you all” to the crowd of 5,300.

After it went down, Suzuki faced criticism for donning the hat, but he fired back at everybody who didn’t like what he did.

“Everybody makes everything political,” Suzuki said in a text to USA Today. “It was about our team winning the World Series.”

“That was the president,” he said. “Just trying to have some fun.”

The team’s meeting with Trump was always going to be scrutinized, especially after Trump showed up to Game 5 at Nationals Park and the fan base promptly booed him and chanted ‘lock him up.’
