Christian Wood did not know it at the time, but he had a snake in his circle who was pretending to be all for him.

Back in 2015, Wood went undrafted after being projected to be a first-round draft pick and his photo from that night quickly went viral.

His night was only getting started as his then-girlfriend would also break up with him that same night.

Via The Ringer:

“On the night of the draft, Wood rented an event space at Caesar’s Palace. He invited a few dozen family and friends. “He was so excited at first,” said former UNLV coach Dave Rice. But Wood watched with horror as his name went uncalled in the first round. It wasn’t called in the second round, either.

Somehow, that wasn’t the end of Wood’s misery. “I lost my girlfriend that night, too,” he said. “I dropped her off at the airport after the draft and never saw her again.”

It all worked out for him in the end after the Houston Rockets inked the big man to a 3-year $41 million contract.

It’s only been two games, but Wood is currently averaging 27.0 PPG and 8.0 RPG in 40.0 MPG for a depleted Rockets squad.
