Travis Kelce Speaks On Blowing Through All of His Rookie Contract Money: ‘Should’ve Been On 30 for 30 Broke’ (VIDEO)
Travis Kelce may not be the best athlete to ask on what to do when they receive millions of dollars upon entering a professional sports league.
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end revealed on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast with Shannon Sharpe that he spent his entire rookie contract, while cautioning others not to follow in his footsteps.
“I spent it all, Shannon. I should’ve been on the ’30 for 30: Broke,'” he said. “… All the young guys in the league, all the guys that have the opportunity to get that big first check from the NFL – save it, man.
“Find a financial advisor you trust that’s gonna do right with your money, because I was searching around for cart deals after my first year trying to just pay rent.”
Kelce revealed his first big purchases included a pair of self-lacing Nike Mag sneakers and a Rolex watch.
“Man, I was walking in this empty apartment with some Marty McFlys on and a Rolex,” he said. “I felt like the coolest guy in the world, man.”
These days, he’s doing pretty good as he signed a four-year, $57.25-million extension in 2020 that included $28 million in guaranteed money.
