NFL Films Releases Philip Rivers’ Best Trash-Talking Moments & It’s A Thing of Beauty (VIDEO)
Quarterback Philip Rivers announced on Wednesday that after 17 seasons in the NFL, he is headed off into the sunset and retiring.
“It’s just time,” he told Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune. “It’s just right.”
To celebrate his unique career, NFL Films dropped a video that highlighted one of the best parts of Philip Rivers: His mouth.
The 39-year-old spent all but one of his professional seasons playing for the Chargers and played his final season for the Indianapolis Colts.
“This is the first year I felt like the ending was real,” he said. “We talked about it other years, but we knew we weren’t doing it. This year felt different. … It just seemed right.”
Rivers chose Jan. 20 as the date of his retirement because he is a devout Catholic, and Jan. 20 is the feast day of St. Sebastian, the patron saint of athletes.
He ends his career fifth all-time in completions (5,277), passing yards (63,440), and passing touchdowns (421).
