Beginning In the 2022 season, the National Football League will allow teams to use two different helmets, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

“NFL approved alternate helmets today for teams wearing throwback uniforms starting in 2022, per league sources,” Schefty reported via Twitter. “This opens the door to the defending world-champion Bucs wearing the old white helmets with the orange swashbuckling Buccaneer as early as 2022.”

The NFL previously stopped the use of alternate helmets due to player safety concerns, but a memo sent on Thursday reversed course and said teams can pair the second helmet with alternate, throwback, or color rush uniforms.
