Lexi Kaufman, AKA Alexa Bliss, is an extremely popular professional wrestler in the world of WWE wrestling. At 29 years old, she’s already worked her way up to main event status with a truly shocking and memorably gimmick, following several unsuccessful gimmicks and some time in development.
But how much do you know about the currently creepy main eventer?
If you’ve found yourself asking this question, you’ve come to the right place. This article will walk you through a brief guide to the biography of Alexa Bliss.
Alexa Bliss’ Humble Beginnings
Alexis, “Lexi” Kaufman was born in 1991 in Colombus, Ohio, a natural athlete. Despite her small frame (she currently stands at five feet one inch), she competed in track, gymnastics, softball, and kickboxing at a young age.
Alexa Bliss has opened up about her adolescent battle with an eating disorder, which become so severe that she almost lost her life to it. It was bad to the point where she was surrounded by five doctors a day and estimates her weight at around eighty pounds.
She overcame the struggle by turning to fitness and competitive bodybuilding. It’s likely that the highly-regimented (but still nutritious) diets of bodybuilders helped her regain her relationship with food, little by little.

Straight to the Big Time
While her main interests were in other athletic adventures, Lexi remained a lifelong fan of the WWE. After college, one of her trainers mentioned that WWE was having a try-out near her. She scraped together a video of her performing some athletic feats and got a call-back to come in and try out.
She attributes her success in the audition largely due to her gift of gab, saying, “I just started talking, and I am a talker. I just started talking about my family watching wrestling. I started to talk about the knowledge I had of wrestling, storylines, and everything like that.”
From there, she got her 30-day in-ring try-out in Florida with no prior experience.
A Developmental Fairy
When she first appeared on the scene on NXT in 2013, Alexa Bliss had something of a fairy gimmick going. As a “pixie princess,” she came to the ring dressed in a cheerleader uniform, blowing glitter out into the audience.
She quickly became popular in the division, despite the strange gimmick. She feuded with some of the top rising stars, like Bayley, Nia Jax and Charlotte Flair.
Alexa Bliss Makes The Main Roster
In 2016, Alexa Bliss debuted as part of WWE’s main roster (sans glitter fairy gimmick) on their Friday Night Smackdown program. She competed in various successful singles and tag-team rivals to become one of the stars of WWE in the late 2010s. As a cocky, “mean-girl” heel, Alexa Bliss won the WWE Smackdown Women’s Championship, and defended it several times.
In 2017, she made her shift over to WWE’s legendary Monday Night Raw, where she still makes her home. She quickly became the WWE Raw Women’s Champion and the first woman to ever hold both titles.
Alexa Bliss’s star grew, and she even competed in the first-ever all-women’s WWE pay-per-view. However, she took some time off due to an injury and played a role for some months as a host of an interview segment called “A Moment of Bliss.”
Bliss came back to the main roster in 2019, teaming up with another short wrestler, Scottish star Nikki Cross. The two tag-teamed for a while under a “best friends” gimmick, but for the audience, it was a hard sell.
This is a good time to note that while Alexa Bliss achieved prominent status in the WWE during this time, something never quite clicked. She won titles and competed in big matches, but she didn’t have the main-event star power of Ronda Rousey, Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, or Sasha Banks. Wrestlers like this are known as “middle-carders”; they’re talented but forgettable.
She’s not alone in this, however. Stonecold Steve Austin hopped around through the ’80s and ’90s as “The Ringleader” and “Stunning Steve Austin,” and no one really batted an eye. It wasn’t until he found the right gimmick that he rose to world stardom.
The Right Gimmick
…and the right gimmick was exactly what Alexa Bliss found in 2020. To understand this Gimmick, one has to understand strange and alluring WWE star, Bray Wyatt.
Bray is a confirmed heel (bad guy) in the world of professional wrestling, always playing horror-based characters. He started out as a cult leader, but now he plays the role of a demented children’s show host that transforms into a monstrous demon, “The Fiend,” who preys on other superstar’s personal lives.
In 2020, The Fiend used Alexa Bliss as a way of getting into the head of superstar Braun Strowman — who had an affection for Bliss. After an attack by The Fiend, Alexa began acting creepy, going into a trance-like state at the beck and call of the fiend and performing The Fiend’s finisher, Sister Abigail.
This horror-based persona was a major hit, catapulting Alexa Bliss into main-event status. She combined the grotesque horror of Brey with a level of sexiness, adopting a Harley-Quin-esque look and sometimes even wearing costumes reminiscent of popular horror characters.
Despite once being a fairy princess, Alexa played her creepy new character shockingly well. She’s since severed ties with The Fiend, playing her creepy character on her own. And she can now be seen carrying with her a nightmare-inducing doll named Lilly.
Her new persona has seen her dressing like a creepy little girl, kneeling on a pentagram, and dripping black goo down her face. She’s gone further than almost anyone has with a horror gimmick in the WWE in recent memory. Possibly even further than Bray Wyatt.
The Many Sides of WWE Alexa Bliss
Alexa Bliss is still young. As you can see above, her career has only been a matter of rising up. From tragic beginnings to sports mastery to bad-gimmick WWE developmental, to middle-card main-roster WWE monotony, to main event unforgettable horror-queen stardom, Alexa Bliss has packed a lot of life into her 29 years.
If she keeps this up, she may joins the rank of wrestling horror legends like The Undertaker. The one thing we’ve learned about Alexa Bliss so far is to expect the unexpected — and to always expect greatness, even if it’s currently in disguise.
