Ben Simmons has been to practice for two days now, and Joel Embiid still hasn’t spoken with him. It won’t happen today after head coach Doc Rivers was forced to toss him from practice. He would soon receive a one game suspension for conduct detrimental to the team.
Simmons will serve the suspension Wednesday for the season opener against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Starting center Joel Embiid would speak on the situation soon after and did not mince any words.
“At the end of the day, our job is not to babysit somebody.”
Simmons’ reluctance to physically and mentally engage with the Sixers since his return has been a consistent theme, sources told Wojnarowski.
Shams Charania would later add that Doc Rivers asked Ben Simmons to join a defensive drill today. Simmons refused. Rivers asked again. Simmons said no again. Rivers said he should leave, so Simmons dropped the ball and went home.
Simmons returned to the team last Monday after a missing the first two weeks of practice as he held out in the hopes of getting traded elsewhere.
