Jimmy Garoppolo could soon be finding his way off the 49ers roster because the team has reportedly received a trade offer for the veteran quarterback.
According to NFL insider John Middlekauff, the Niners have been offered a second-round pick in exchange for the quarterback.
“I would say if they got a three and a two, how is that humanly possible?” Middlekauff said on his podcast with Guy Haberman. “Listen, I got a text yesterday that someone told them—and they’re like, ‘I even think it’s crazy’—that there’s a two on the table.
“Khalil Mack just got traded for a two, and I get that quarterbacks are much more important than pass rushers, and there’s a supply-and-demand issue. There’s also a draft issue. … Props to the Niners if they’re able to pull that s–t off.”
With former No. 3 overall pick Trey Lance waiting in the wings, the Niners had every expectation to part ways with Jimmy G, even before the 2021 season started.
“If you get a second-round pick—so you acquire him for a second, you got a second, and you got everything in the middle—that would be one of the most incredible transactions I’ve ever seen because part of it is I don’t think he’s worthy of that,” Middlekauff added.
After logging 3,810 yards, 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions en route to a 9-6 regular-season record, Garoppolo helped the Niners make an NFC Championship appearance in the postseason.
His next team is going to get a proven winner and a guy who has played in the Super Bowl.
