Just when you thought this NFL offseason was out of plot twists, Deebo Samuel’s trade request shook things up again.
The year of the wide receiver continued this past week, as 49ers WR Deebo Samuel demanded a trade and started an avalanche of rumors of where he might end up if the 49ers choose to trade him.
The Jets have looked into trading or signing just about every big-name receiver who has been available this offseason, from Calvin Ridley to Tyreek Hill. They’ve struck out every time so far.
The front office is clearly not giving up, because reports are now stating they are willing to part ways with the No. 10th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft to get Deebo.
One of the biggest breakout stars of the 2021 season following a year in which he had both over 1,400 yards receiving and rushed for eight touchdowns, Samuel is due for a new deal.
Deebo’s fit with the team makes sense when you consider HC Robert Saleh and OC Mike LaFleur who are familiar with Samuel from their time in San Francisco. They need weapons for quarterback Zach Wilson. Samuel would go a long way toward filling that need.
We have more information as the Draft draws near.
Samuel emerged as one of the top players in the NFL last season, posting 77 receptions for 1,405 yards and six touchdowns to go with 59 rushes for 365 yards and eight more scores.
