There have been some big NFL trades this offseason involving wide receivers, but if Deebo Samuel gets dealt, it might blow them all out of the water.
The 49ers star has made it clear that he wants out of San Francisco when he removed all 49er-related things from his social media accounts and then demanded a trade last week.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, “several teams” are reportedly vying for his services.
“I know several teams are interested in Deebo Samuel … From the Jets, to the Lions, to the Packers. There’s going to be several teams who are interested in trading for him and giving roughly maybe the value of the 13th overall pick. … But the better question is, do the 49ers actually do it?”
Samuel was a second-round pick of the Niners back in 2019 and has clearly outperformed his contract.
The 49ers likely won’t trade Samuel unless they get blown away by an offer, and right now, it might take two first-round picks to get a deal done. If the 49ers do come away with two first-rounders in a Deebo Samuel deal, that would easily be the biggest trade of the offseason involving a wide receiver.
One team that might be interested in Samuel is the Jets. During an appearance on Trey Wingo’s “Draft Insiders” podcast this week, Tony Pauline of Pro Football Network said there is a belief around the NFL that the New York Jets will make a “Godfather” offer for Samuel.
“The feeling inside the league is the Niners are listening to offers for Deebo Samuel and the Jets are gonna put together such a massive package that the Niners are not gonna be able to turn it away,” Pauline said. “Everyone says that Kyle Shanahan would like to keep Deebo Samuel. But again, the feeling is, as they said in “The Godfather,” the Jets are going to make the Niners an offer they can’t refuse. That is the word in league circles.”
As for Samuel, he still seems pretty set on leaving San Francisco. The receiver was caught on video laughing over the weekend and the twist is that he was laughing at a sign being held by a 49ers fan that said “Deebo is Staying.”
