Last season around this time, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook were seated together as they watched the Lakers summer league game. Things have changed in the past year.
James didn’t play basketball but still owned the room, while Russell Westbrook-related drama was the biggest storyline surrounding a Los Angeles Lakers game.
The Lakers were blown out 104-84 by the Phoenix Suns in their NBA 2K23 Las Vegas Summer League debut. However, everyone couldn’t help but notice that LeBron and Russell Westbrook not only did not sit with each other but never interacted together at all.
Westbrook showed up for the game but sat at the opposite side of the court from where Pelinka, James, and Ham were, on the bench and talking to the players that were playing in the game.
Westbrook was originally expected to serve as the third member of the Lakers’ Big 3, but he ended up posting one of the worst seasons of his NBA career. The team couldn’t stay healthy and when they were, the chemistry on the court just did not work out.
Lakers new head coach Darvin Ham has vocalized his plans for Westbrook in the Lakers’ system this coming season, but the possibility of a blockbuster trade is still on the table.
