Imane Khelif continues to dominate headlines months after the 2024 Olympics.
The world watched Imane win Olympic gold in women’s boxing at the Paris Olympics, but more so the attention surrounding whether she was a transgender boxer facing off against women. The Algerian boxer became the subject of cyberbullying and intense discussion on social media about gender.
Many believed Khelif was competing against women despite allegedly being born with the XY chromosomes. She first gained attention after a video showed her punching Italian boxer Angela Carini in the face and forcing her to withdraw from the match in just 46 seconds.
The results from a medical test on Olympic champion boxer Imane Khelif at the 2023 World Championships have suggested the Olympic champion is a biological male.
Just 36 hours after World Boxing ruled that Khelif would need to undergo sex screening to be eligible for any future appearances in the female category, the document at the heart of this extraordinary saga was released into the public domain.
To all the people that insisted Imane Khelif was a woman because his passport said so,

The document summarises the findings on Khelif as “abnormal,” stating: “Chromosome analysis reveals male karyotype.”
Per the article, a “karyotype refers to an individual’s complete set of chromosomes, which in Khelif’s case has been reported by the International Boxing Association (IBA) as being XY, the male pattern.”
The test results directly challenge the account of IOC spokesman Mark Adams, who, in a tense news conference at the Paris Olympics, described the results as “ad hoc” and “not legitimate.”
This news makes Imane Khelif’s comeback far more complicated.
Olympic Gold Medal Boxer Imane Khelif Is Fighting Back

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif emerged victorious at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, securing a gold medal after a global firestorm of speculation around her gender.
Now, she is facing a new lawsuit for her participation in the sport.
According to The Associated Press, in February, the International Boxing Association said it would file criminal complaints against the International Olympic Committee in the U.S., France, and Switzerland for allowing Khelif and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting to compete and win gold medals in Paris last year.
Less than 24 hours after the news, Khelif herself took aim at the IBA.
“For eight years, I have fought for my dream—eight years of sacrifice, discipline, and perseverance to stand on the Olympic stage and represent my country with pride. I have earned my place, and I will continue to stand firm in the face of any challenge,” the gold medalist wrote in a blistering Instagram post. “For two years, I have taken the high road while my name and image have been used, unauthorized, to further personal and political agendas through the spreading and dissemination of baseless lies and misinformation. But silence is no longer an option.”
