
One pair of the ruby slippers that legendary actress Judy Garland wore from “The Wizard of Oz” nearly 80 years ago have sold for a record price at auction.
The late Judy Garland starred as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 hit film, “The Wizard of Oz, which was based on the novel by L. Frank Baum. sold at auction for a record price of $32.5 million with buyers premium.
Garland wore multiple pairs of the ruby slippers, but only four survived, the Associated Press noted. The pair that sold at auction were the very ones that were stolen in 2005 from the Judy Garland Museum in Grand Rapids, Minnesota. The FBI located and obtained the shoes in 2018.
Per the AP, a hat warn by Margaret Hamilton (she player the Wicked Witch of the West) from the film also sold for a pretty penny at $2.4 million. The identity of the lucky buyer has not been released.
