When Elon Musk stood behind Donald Trump in July 2024, it wasn’t just political drama brewing in the background. According to a newly surfaced report from The New York Times, the world’s richest man was allegedly dealing with something far more personal and deeply concerning- his drug use, particularly ketamine, had reportedly reached a level that left him battling bladder control issues at the time.
Sources close to Musk described his drug routine as far beyond recreational. The Times report claims Musk frequently traveled with a box carrying nearly 20 pills, including ones resembling Adderall. Alongside that, the report outlines regular use of Ecstasy, psychedelic mushrooms, and ketamine, a drug known to cause “ketamine bladder,” a painful and damaging condition affecting urinary function.
Daily Drug Use, Bladder Issues, And Trump

The New York Times investigation paints a stark picture. Musk wasn’t just dabbling in substances. He reportedly admitted to friends that his ketamine use had escalated to the point where it began affecting his bladder. “Mr. Musk’s drug consumption went well beyond occasional use,” the report states, citing people familiar with his private conversations.
Ketamine bladder, as described by the National Institute of Health, includes painful urination, frequent urges, incontinence, and bladder shrinkage. Musk’s condition reportedly matched several of these symptoms. “He told people he was taking so much ketamine… that it was affecting his bladder,” the Times noted. That revelation reportedly came around the same period he endorsed Trump publicly.
The drug use wasn’t hidden behind closed doors, either. According to people who have seen it, Musk kept a medication box that included everything from psychedelics to stimulants. At the time of his endorsement of Trump, the Times says Musk was still consuming ketamine at levels that were affecting his body, and likely his behavior in public and private alike.
While the report doesn’t specify if Musk was visibly unwell during the endorsement or political engagements, the physiological effects of long-term ketamine use suggest he may have been battling constant and uncontrollable urges to urinate during that time.
