Just two hours before Air India Flight 171 crashed into the doctors’ hostel near a medical college in Ahmedabad, a passenger recorded a video that now raises serious questions about the aircraft’s condition. That same plane, a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, had just flown from Delhi to Ahmedabad with passenger Akash Vatsa on board, and he noticed things that didn’t sit right.
“The AC wasn’t working. Call lights were dead. Even the touchscreen for entertainment was just frozen,” Vatsa wrote on X. He had been sitting on seat 25A during that earlier Air India flight. His video now feels chilling, considering what happened just hours later.
“I was in the same damn flight 2 hours before it took off from Ahmedabad,” he posted, adding, “Noticed unusual things in the place.”
Passengers Sweating, Buttons Dead, Systems Down

In the video, the aircraft taxis on the runway as Vatsa narrates his observations. He shows passengers fanning themselves with Air India magazines, saying, “Look everywhere. So many people are using these magazines.” He then focuses the camera on the in-flight entertainment screen, tapping it multiple times. Nothing responds.

Even the button to call the cabin crew fails to work. Vatsa presses it repeatedly, visibly frustrated. “Neither this button for calling the cabin crew is working,” he says in the video. “Nothing is working. Not even the lights are working.”

Vatsa said he recorded the footage with plans to tag Air India later and hold them accountable. But after the crash, the video has taken on a darker tone, almost like a warning no one acted on.
In a separate clip from another Air India flight, a passenger recorded a similar experience on flight AI0855 from Delhi to Amritsar, just hours after the crash. “Even on yesterday’s flight AI0462, the AC wasn’t turned on at all,” the voice in the video says. Again, passengers could be seen visibly uncomfortable.

All 242 people on board the doomed Ahmedabad-London Air India flight, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, died in the crash. The pilot made a mayday call to air traffic control before the aircraft lost all communication and descended fatally at -475 feet per minute.
