
A high school softball player is dead as a result of a horrific tree-falling accident. Kennedy Columbus, an 18-year-old athlete who played softball for Chazy Central Rural High School in Chazy, New York, was killed after a tree hit her car on its way down.
The Chazy superintendent confirmed Kennedy’s passing, with the school calling the loss “unimaginable” as they sympathized with her family.
“This is an unimaginable loss, and our entire school community is grieving,” a spokesperson said.
“We ask that you speak openly and compassionately with your children this evening. A loss like this can be overwhelming, and no one should face it alone,” they added. “Our hearts are with Kennedy’s family and all who knew and loved her. We will share more information in the coming days.”
Kennedy Columbus Was Going To Graduate This Month

Kennedy Columbus was a pitcher for the school and made the news in May, with NBC5 giving her a shoutout for an inside-the-park home run.
According to the outlet, she was driving along Lake Shore Road on Friday when a tree fell on her car, causing it to overturn and hit a utility pole.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Making the circumstances even sadder is the fact that she was due to graduate on June 27.
Chazy High School stayed open on Friday, offering students a place to grieve and seek support. Counseling will also be provided in the coming days.
