The NYPD has come to a decision on detective Melissa Mercado following her appearance in a rap video that left everyone shocked to learn that she was a police officer.
Mercado, a special victims investigator, played the part of a stripper in the video, joining rapper S-Quire for a song called “Doin That,” much to the surprise of coworkers. She has since taken quite a bit of criticism over her actions, with many calling for her to be fired.
While she is understood to have the backing of the Police Union, the NYPD has chosen to pull Mercado off active cases pending a review.
The detective, who is said to have a very laid-back personality, did not expect the video to go viral, according to reports.
The department is now looking to determine whether she violated any policies.
Sources from within New York law enforcement have vouched for Mercado’s skill as an investigator, telling TMZ she’s one of the best at what she does.

However, NYPD higher-ups are now trying to determine whether she filed the requisite paperwork to moonlight. It is unclear whether her provocative appearance in sultry lingerie and dancing violates any NYPD policies at the moment.
Rapper Claims He Had No Idea Melissa Mercado Was An NYPD Detective
Mercardo, who earns a yearly salary of $144,000, has been with the department since 2018 and is a third-grade detective with the Bronx Special Victims Unit.
According to S-Quire, she was presented to his team via casting agency, and they were not aware of her position in law enforcement at the time.
“I didn’t know what she did for a living,” he told the Daily Mail. “She doesn’t seem like a detective. When you think of detectives, you think of Special Victims Unit on the TV.”
Pitch Perfect, the music video producer, has also revealed that he has been contacted by multiple other artists who want the police officer in their videos.
“I’ve had tons of artists reach out trying to get her in their video,” he said. “If you look at it like that, it might be a great thing for her. I think she wins.”
