
Amid backlash for his cordial relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened serious action if a peace deal with Ukraine isn’t reached.
On social media, Donald Trump announced that he’s “strongly considering large scale Banking Sanctions, Sanctions, and Tariffs on Russia” if they don’t cease fire and reach a peace settlement with Ukraine.
Trump also warned the two sides to start negotiations “before it’s too late.”

Last Friday, Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance welcomed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to the White House to discuss their mineral resources agreement. The televised conversation grew heated and ended without a deal being completed.
During the heated discussion, Trump told Zelenskyy that he was risking World War III, with Vance also accusing him of not showing gratitude for the help Ukraine has received from the United States.

Zelenskyy told Trump that Putin had also broken several agreements on ceasefires, but the president said no agreements were broken.
Donald Trump and J.D. Vance received immense backlash and criticism, particularly from Democrats, for how they handled the meeting with Zelensky. On a subsequent family skiing trip in Vermont, Vance was approached by a protestor who called him “Putin’s puppet.”

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in Feb. 2022, numerous NATO countries responded by placing sanctions against Russia.
